HOFCD launched a structured blood donor registration program in Vehari, building a verified database of safe blood donors to ensure thalassemia patients and others in need always have access to safe, compatible blood.
Vehari, Punjab — HOFCD launched a structured Blood Donor Registration Program to address one of the most critical challenges facing thalassemia patients: the constant need for safe, compatible blood.
Thalassemia patients require 2 to 4 blood transfusions per month for their entire lives. Sourcing safe, compatible blood is a continuous struggle for patient families — often requiring them to arrange 2–3 donor volunteers before each transfusion. HOFCD's registered donor program eliminates this burden.
How the Program Works
- Community members register as voluntary blood donors with their blood group, contact details, and availability
- HOFCD maintains a searchable donor database updated monthly
- When a thalassemia patient needs blood, HOFCD matches and contacts registered donors
- Registered donors receive notifications about upcoming camp blood donation drives
- All donors are screened for eligibility and blood-borne diseases before each donation
